The 51st Earth Day is Thursday, April 22. You might consider a Creation Care based service, educational event or activity as a way of encouraging conversation about the stewardship of creation in your congregation.
The Diocese of El Camino Real Creation Care team has compiled this list of resources and events to aid parishes plan events and services to commemorate this day. We hope you can use these resources to initiate or energize efforts to care for creation in our congregation.
Earth Sunday
Since Earth Day is April 22, we can celebrate Earth Day Sunday on either April 18 or April 25. Creation Care Ministries provides resources for this service around the theme, A New Heaven and a New Earth. This theme focuses on Health, Environmental Racism, & Eco-Justice.
Interfaith Power and Light has a different theme: “Sacred Ground: Cultivating Connections Between Our Faith, Our Food, and the Climate.” IPL invites congregations to examine how our food systems contribute to injustice and to climate change, and how our faith traditions call us to respond through practical solutions. Their action kit includes instructions, suggestions for action for congregations and individuals to help solve the climate crisis and support food justice, links to prayers and worship resources, and more.
The national climate prayer and other prayers are available here.
More liturgical resources for Creation Care are available here.
