The Rt. Rev. Rachel Treweek, bishop of the Diocese of Gloucester in England, our partner diocese across the pond, spent late November touring the Diocese of El Camino Real, learning about our community ministries and exchanging ideas with church leaders. Treweek and Julie Fay (diocesan worship officer and link officer between the two dioceses) began their multi-day California visit on November 28 in the San Luis Obispo Deanery, which included a visit to the city’s food bank, then traveling north to visit with clergy and members of St. Mark’s King City and St. Luke’s Jolon. The evening of Nov. 29 included a tea reception at All Saints’ Carmel and a dinner with diocesan staff.
On Nov. 30 Treweek and Fay spent the day at Sargent House in Salinas with Bishop Mary, diocesan staff, and leaders of diocesan commissions for a “Learning Community” workshop, sharing visions for the future. Treweek also shared her diocese’s “LIFE” vision statement, based on Leadership, Imagination, Faith, and Engagement. The tour continued north to Trinity Cathedral in San Jose, to St. Francis’ Willow Glen, St. Andrew’s Saratoga, and to the campus ministries at San Jose State University led by the Rev. Kathey Crowe. Thanks to Bishop Rachel and Julie for their inspiring visit!
