Diocesan Cycle of Prayer on the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost

This week, on the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost, we ask for your prayers for St. James, Monterey and St. James, Paso Robles, whose patron’s feast day falls on July 25. St. James is the patron saint of pilgrims, and the famed Camino de Santiago – the Way of St. James – ends at his traditional resting place in Spain. As we “Walk the Way” together in El Camino Real, may we, like the faithful pilgrims before us, travel light, stay in balance, and have the courage to be lost — trusting that God walks with us.

We give thanks for the exciting work underway at St. James, Monterey, where renovations to McGowan House are underway in preparation for the launch of Grounded Hope, an Episcopal Service Corps program, coming in Fall 2027. And we celebrate St. James, Paso Robles, founded in 1892 and home to what is believed to be the oldest pipe organ in continuous use on the West Coast — a magnificent 1863 instrument still singing after more than 160 years.
