It’s time to consider whether God is calling you to be part of the Bishop’s Search Committee. This vital ministry will start with a one-day retreat in Salinas on June 23 and continue until March 2019 when the committee will provide a slate of candidates who match the profile of our next bishop, all of whom have been thoroughly screened and interviewed and have had an opportunity to visit and meet with people around the diocese. The Electing Convention is scheduled for June 1, 2019 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Saratoga.
Search Committee members will most likely have some experience with employment processes in the secular world and should be detail oriented; they will be responsible for listening to the diocese in order to create a profile not only of El Camino Real, but also of the person we hope to call as the next bishop. Other roles include receiving and reviewing applications from across the Episcopal Church, interviewing those selected, determining a short list of candidates, and organizing and running the discernment conference.
Committee members should recognize that this is first and foremost a process of holy discernment on behalf of the diocese. Spiritual and emotional maturity are required, as is the ability to view the big picture while thinking and working as part of a team. If you’re interested in being considered for the Search Committee, please read the complete Search Committee Ministry Description before applying.
The online application form is available here. All applications must be completed by April 25.
